what do you use to lighten the comic strips to raise the focus on the actual art rather than the overpowering comic background.

I do a light spray of some satin ivory spray paint over the comic print. It blends quite nicely with the natural color of the paper while reducing the overall contrast to allow the image to pop more.

Love the idea with useing comics as the backround. Not trying to troll but don't you think this is a little bit to Much like shepard fairey work?

Thanks! It's no trolling at all to ask a legitimate and honest question. Truthfully, yes, the work is very similar. Artists however are like bands. There are thousands upon thousands doing what they can to get by. Many bands sound the same, and in a similar vein, sometimes art can look the same. Shepard is one of many artists regarding a particular style/movement. He just so happens to be the one who made it. And good for him as I love his work. It's not uncommon for artists to be influenced by each other, to adopt a particular style, to appropriate... as long as it's done out of the purity to make art:)
Man, I could go on and on about this subject but I'll end it here. I don't want to talk anybody's ear off;)
